Nespresso Inissia Espresso Maker

The Inissia Espresso Maker has the smallest body among other models in the Nespresso line. It has a 19 bar pressure pump. The unit has a sleek and compact plastic body. Available in black, white, red, silver, pacific blue, and titian gray.

The Inissia Espresso has very similar features relative to the Nespresso Pixie. To begin brewing, you pull up lever to bring forward the cradle for putting in capsules. The machine is switched on using either the espresso or the lungo button. For the cup tray, the default maximum height is 3.5 inches (1.4 oz). After folding the tray, you can accommodate a 5.5 inches (3.7 oz) tall cup.

At around $117.62, the Inissia Espresso Maker looks stylish enough for your home kitchen. At $169.99, You can also consider adding the Aeroccino Plus Milk Frother for capuccino & lattes. The brewing process is a slot and one click sequence that makes it convenient to make capuccino, machiato, espresso, and latte in just half a minute. For such a compact device, Inssia has a large water tank of 24 oz, so the machine can make quite a decent amount. When you have guests over, the Inissia can make about 3 cups of coffee in US size. See demo below:

Note that the factory settings for lungo is 110 ml, and espresso is 40 ml. If you wish to make your coffee more tailored to your preference, simply choose the manual mode by holding onto the button and release it when the coffee reaches a desirable volume.

In terms of the after-brew cleaning, the chamber holds up to 11 capsules. You do not have to worry about disposal each time. On average, it only takes once a year to descale the Inissia Espresso for machine maintenance. This process helps reduce water hardness. (as shown in the chart below)

Descaling can reduce water hardness.

All you need to do is pour the descaling fluid into the water tank pre-filled with 0.5 L of portable water. Press and hold onto the lungo and espresso buttons. Place a 1 L container under the outlet to collect rinsed fluid. Then rinse the machine for the second time with the same diluted descaling fluid.  For the third time, fill up the water tank with portable water. Repeat the steps above. To exit the descaling mode, simply hold onto the lungo and espresso buttons.

Overall, the Inissia Espresso Machine offers decent value for coffee lovers. Its compact brewing unit gives us a fast preheating time in just 25 seconds. The capsule cradle is made for convenience. It is easy to insert and eject. There are no messy ground coffee & coffee grinds that come into contact with the brewing unit. The 19 bar pressure pump is also made to exceed standard of 15 bars to make an espresso with thick, flavourable crema. The Inissia internal temperature and pressure control system is energy efficient. By default, if you leave the machine idle for 9 minutes, the machine will automatically turn off for energy savings.

Two drawbacks for the Inissia: The coffee connoisseurs may find this machine rather simplistic as they are very hands-on in terms of coffee brewing. Since Inissia only takes Nespresso capsules, it is also not as appealing for those who want to adopt specialized and gourmet ground coffee in their espresso machines.
